Blue Economy & Resilience Program
Our work
To address the growing ecological and economic pressures on coastal and marine ecosystems, PRIM has spearheaded a series of initiatives that operationalize circular blue economy models across Latin America, the Pacific, and Southeast Asia. Our approach combines nature-based solutions (NbS), inclusive governance, and sustainable value chains to build climate resilience and improve the livelihoods of coastal and indigenous communities. This work is grounded in rigorous technical assessments—including biodiversity valuations, marine baselines, and geospatial analyses—and implemented through deep engagement with local communities, fishers, and policymakers. From mercury-free artisanal gold mining on Honduras' coast to restoring blue carbon ecosystems across the Caribbean, our work demonstrates the viability of triple bottom line strategies that benefit people, planet, and prosperity.
Key areas of focus
include blue carbon ecosystems, sustainable fisheries, reef and mangrove conservation, pollution remediation, and policy reform. We also provide technical assistance to develop and assess national-level frameworks that align with the SDGs and climate adaptation priorities.

Our impact
-
Designed and implemented blue economy models that are now being scaled across the Caribbean and Pacific.
-
Helped establish inclusive governance frameworks in marine and coastal areas through participatory planning and indigenous engagement.
-
Conducted national and regional strategic evaluations that shaped future investments in sustainable fisheries, marine biodiversity, and blue carbon resilience.
-
Contributed to the creation of evidence-based policies for mercury remediation in small-scale mining zones and for NbS in protected highland ecosystems.
-
Developed frameworks that integrate environmental protection with social equity and economic revitalization in some of the world's most vulnerable coastal zones.
